Overview

The Overview tab of the port profile details page contains the following sections:

  • Identification—Displays the name assigned to the port profile by the administrator.
  • Security > Port Security—Displays the security configuration applied to the port profile.

    The different types of Port Security options are:

    • Untrusted Port Protections (DHCP and ARP)—Requires at least one wired network to be enabled with DHCP and ARP attack protections. Not applicable to gateways, access points, and 1830 series switches.
    • Port isolation (protected port)— Not applicable to gateways, access points, and 1830 series switches.
  • Security > Spanning Tree Protections—Not applicable to gateways and access points. This section displays the Spanning Tree Protections (STP) configuration applied to the port profile.
    • No spanning tree protections (default)—The default spanning tree protection settings without the BPDU option.
    • Filter spanning tree protocol (BPDU filter)—Filters incoming and outgoing BPDUs on the port.
    • Block spanning tree protocol (BPDU guard)—Stops the incoming and outgoing BPDUs received on the port.
    • Root bridge protection (Root guard)—Protects the designated root bridge by preventing unauthorized ports from becoming a root bridge.
  • Authentication > 802.1X Authentication—Displays the 802.1X authentication method configured for the port profile.

    The different types of authentications are:

    • No authentication—Is the default option selected.
    • Port-based—Enables port-based 802.1X authentication. Port-based authentication is not applicable to gateways, and 1830 series switches.
    • Client-based—Enables client-based 802.1X authentication. Client-based authentication does not apply to gateways, access points, and 1830 series switches.

      This is an optional setting. When Client-based is selected as the 802.1X Authentication type, an additional Authentication Options section is displayed. You can select one of the following options:

      • 802.1X + MAC Authentication—Enables a secondary attempt at MAC-based authentication if the initial 802.1X request times out. If 802.1X is explicitly refused by the server (for example, during an invalid credentials), MAC authentication is not attempted.
      • Unauthenticated User Guest Access—Enables a fallback to a wired guest network for clients that fail 802.1X authentication. This requires a wired Guest Network to be configured on the Instant On site. On enabling this option the guest network is displayed as Untagged guest network under the Network Assignment > Included Networks section of the port configuration.
  • Power Management—Provides options to configure Power over Ethernet (PoE) supply for connected devices. Power management options are unavailable for ports that are part of an LACP group.
  • Power Management > Power Allocation—Select one of the following PoE supply policies for the port profile:
    • No Power over Ethernet—Disables PoE for devices connected to the port assigned with the port profile.
    • Usage (default)—Allocates power based on device usage with no restrictions.
    • Class—The power allocated to the port is based on the PoE standard of the device. The power class of devices is categorized as follows:

  • Power Management > Port Priority—Assigns a priority level to the ports. When PoE budget is limited, power is allocated based on priority in the following order: Critical > High > Low.

    When two ports belonging to the same priority request power, the port with the lower port number is given priority. Example: If port 2 and 5 is assigned Critical class and the switch has a power budget constraint, port 2 receives full power before port 5.

  • Power Mode—Determines how the switch delivers Power over Ethernet (PoE) to connected devices during a reboot. Select one of the following options:
    • Always On(default)—PoE remains active on eligible ports throughout a reboot. Power is maintained from the moment the hardware restarts until the switch is fully operational and the ports complete initialization, unless input power is lost.
    • Quick—The hardware restores PoE to eligible ports as soon as it restarts, with no software dependency, so power is delivered as quickly as possible—before the switch has fully started.
    • Normal—The standard power behavior, in which power is applied to the ports only after the configuration is restored.

    Power Mode is applicable only to the Instant On1840 and 1940 Switch Series

  • Power Management > Power Management Options—This is an optional settings. Select the Power Schedule checkbox to enable or disable power schedule on the port. If enabled, the PoE supply to the port is determined by the power schedule. When the Power Schedule option is enabled, the View Power Schedule link is displayed. Tap the View power schedule option to view the power schedule applicable to the port profile.
  • Port Options—The Speed/Duplex option displays the link speed and how the port handles the traffic in both directions (Half or Full-Duplex). Allows you to modify the Advanced Options, such as enabling or disabling Limit Broadcast and Multicast Storms.
  • Delete Port Profile—Allows you to permanently delete the port profile.

    To delete the port profile, follow these steps:

    1. Click Delete.
    2. In the Confirm Profile Deletion pop-up window, click Delete Profile.

After changing any configuration in the Overview page of the port profile, click Update to save the changes, or Cancel to discard changes.
