Viewing Wired Client Details
The Wired Client details page provides detailed information about clients in your network. The Client details page is accessed from the Overview tab.
A wired client is defined as a client connected to an Instant On device that supports Ethernet switching. Wired clients are printers, server, switches, and infrastructure devices connected to the wired network. Wired clients are further classified into infrastructure clients. Infrastructure clients are switches and other network devices through which other wired clients are connected to the network.Wired clients are categorized based on the following scenarios:
Figure 1 Wired Client Scenarios
- The Instant On device connected to the Instant On switching device will not be shown as a wired client.
- Scenario 2: The server will be shown as an edge wired client.
VMs running on the server might report additional MAC addresses to the same Ethernet port. In such cases, each of the MAC addresses will be displayed as a wired client.
- The edge device will be shown as an edge wired client.
- Scenario 4: The third-party infrastructure device will be shown as an infrastructure wired client.
- The wired device connected to the third-party infrastructure device will not be shown as a wired client.
- The infrastructure device will be shown as an edge wired client.
- Scenario 7: The wired device will be shown as a wired client.

PoE Power Cycle
Instant On provides the ability to remotely power cycle wired clients. This option is available only for clients that are either connected to a PoE port on an Instant On router or a switch. The following procedure is used to power cycle the port of the wired client:
- Click the (
) tile on the Instant On home page. The page is displayed. - In the list, hover the cursor over the wired client. A power cycle (
) button is displayed at the end of the row.
- Click the (
) button to power cycle the wired client. The port will then be sequentially powered off and then be powered on. The Duration column displays a message that the client is being power cycled.
The PoE supplier should be an Instant On device.
Power Cycle Multiple Clients
You can power-cycle several wired PoE clients at once from the Clients Overview or Watchlist table.
The following procedure is used to power cycle multiple clients:
- Click the (
) tile on the Instant On home page. The page is displayed. - From the Actions drop-down list, select Power Cycle to enter Multi-select Mode.
- Select the checkbox for each wired PoE client you want to power-cycle, then select Confirm. Each selected client’s port is powered off and then back on in sequence, with the Duration column showing the progress of the power cycle.
The Power Cycle bulk action appears only when all devices on the site are running Instant On 3.4.0 or later versions and at least one wired PoE client (a client connected to a PoE port on an Instant On router or switch) is selected.

Reserving an IP Address for a Client
In addition to reserving an IP address from the network’s IP Assignment tab, you can also reserve or remove a client's IP address directly from the Clients page, for both online and offline clients.
The following procedure reserve or remove a client's IP address directly from the Clients list:
- Click the (
) tile on the Instant On home page, or click Clients from the navigation pane on the left. - Hover the cursor to the end of the row, click the
button, and select Add IP Address Reservation from the options. The client's current IP address is reserved by default, adjust it if needed, then select Confirm. - To remove an existing reservation, open the same menu and select Remove IP Address Reservation.
The following procedure reserve or remove a client's IP address directly from the Clients details:
- Select the client from the list.
- Under Add IP Address Reservation, click Add.
- To remove the client's IP address directly from the Clients details, select Remove.
IP Reservation supports clients with a fixed MAC address, so clients using MAC randomization are not eligible. The option is also unavailable if DHCP is disabled on the network. Each network supports up to 128 IP Reservations, which can be added or removed either from the Clients page or from the IP Assignment tab (Networks > IP Assignment).
Reserving an IP Address on Multiple Networks- When a wired client is connected to more than one network, the Add IP Address Reservation dialog lets you reserve a separate IP address for the client on each eligible network in a single operation.
Under Wired Networks, select the checkbox for each network on which you want to reserve an IP address. For each selected network, the client's current IP on that network is reserved by default; you can adjust it within the network's DHCP range.
- Networks that have already reached the maximum of 128 IP address reservations (cannot be selected).
- Networks that already have an IP address reserved for this client. Click Add IP address reservation to apply all selected reservations at once.
